It has 80 million registered users in 150 territories worldwide. Essentially, users choose from one of six virtual per monsters that they most create, name and nurture for. With such a sizeable following, it's no surprise that the team behind Moshi Monsters is trying a movie version. In 1998, the Pokemon film topped box office charts in its opening weekend and eventually grossed $163 million worldwide. To date, it's the second highest grossing TV adaptation movie, behind The Simpsons Movie.

Much like the Pokemon craze, Moshi Monsters has branched out to music, trading cards, video games and figurines. Last Christmas, toys were given away in McDonald's Happy Meals in the United States and Canada.
